From (http://www.cleveland.com/tv/index.ssf/2008/04/national_geographics_human_foo.html) The following is a link to a great one hour interview on KKCR Radio of the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch" expert Captain Charles Moore about plastics in the oceans. Audio at: http://bit.ly/daqdrx (It's 42MB, takes a few minutes to download.) In the interview Capt. Moore mentions the point that our "plastic footprint" may actually be a bigger problem for the environment than our "carbon footprint." For those considering the plastic bag bills in the Hawaii Legislature, HB 2125 and SB 2559 (HB 2125 is a 10 cent fee per bag that would go into the General Fund, and SB 2559 is a ban on plastic bags) the above radio interview should be of use and interest. By the way, HB 2125 (the fee/revenue bill) has been referred to the House Finance Committee, but not yet scheduled for a hearing. SB 2559 (the ban bill) has been scheduled for a hearing in the Senate JGO Committee on 02-23-10 10:00AM.
